According to ESPN reporter Shams Charania, Irving rejected the player option for next season and signed a three-year, $119 million contract extension with the team, of which the 27-28 season is the player option.

According to Shams's additional report, sources revealed that the first annual salary of Irving's new contract will give the Mavericks room to use the $5.7 million mini-middle special case. Potential targets include Schroeder, Russell, Paul and Brogdon.
