Official: Miami International striker Leonardo Alfonso joins Atlanta United
Miami International officially announced that 24-year-old forward Leonardo Alfonso will transfer to Atlanta United.
In exchange, Miami International received an international player quota, as well as $225,000 in 2025 General Allocation Fund (GAM), and Miami International could also receive an additional $50,000 in GAM funds if Alfonso's performance meets certain indicators. Under the agreement, Miami International will retain a certain percentage of the right to earn in any future transfers in Alfonso.
Between 2019 and 2020, Alfonso played for the Miami International Youth Training Camp and then went to the University of Virginia to develop. In 2024, Alfonso returned to the club and joined Miami International Team II, where he made his career debut. He scored four goals in the regular season with only two appearances in MLS NEXT Pro, quickly reaching the top of the league's scorer list. In the 2024 American League Super Draft, 22-year-old Alfonso was selected by Miami International USL team with the 32nd pick. In April of the same year, he joined the first team. In the 2024 season, Alfonso played 19 times for the first team and scored two goals.
Miami International thanks Alfonso for his contribution to the club and wishes him success in his future career.
