Sabatini: Spalletti is the right person to revive Juventus, but he alone is not enough

Former Roma and Inter Milan sports director Sabatini was interviewed. He discussed Spalletti's suitability as Juventus' new coach, the potential impact on the players, and Tudor's dismissal.

What do you think of Spalletti taking over from Tudor? Do you think he is the right person?

"Because under the current circumstances of Juventus, it is not enough to have a coach who can do things well."

What do you mean?

"The Bianconeri need something more and Spalletti is the ideal talent to revive them. Juventus lacks leadership on the pitch. When a leader is missing, an evolved style of play is needed to eliminate problems. Just getting things done is not enough now. I haven't spoken to Spalletti, but if this is the club's choice, Spalletti will be the right person in the right place at the ideal moment. "Juventus needs Spalletti and Spalletti needs Juventus."

What does Juventus mean to Spalletti?

"Purely good thing".

actually said

"Sabatini is suffering physical pain due to the failure of the national team, and he cannot let go. The pain caused by his experience in the national team cannot be solved by aspirin. Spalletti needs a lot of medicine to relieve the pain, and Juventus can play this role for him. This is an ideal and not-to-be-missed opportunity for the club and Sabatini, a perfect combination."

Can Spalletti withstand Comolli's test?

"We are talking about a coach who won the Serie A title only three years ago by proposing a great style of play: his Napoli is a futuristic and visionary expression of football. It does not take an algorithm to understand this, but I believe that the data will also prove it. I am not a fan of statistics, but one thing must be clear: in today's world, you have to coexist in football and use the potential of artificial intelligence. Not innovating is a bit like continuing to write with a quill."

Does Spalletti's "beautiful football" fit with Juventus's DNA of "victory is not the most important, but the only important thing"?

"Playing well helps bring victory. Every team must be technically excited. Or desperate."

Totti won the Golden Boot under Spalletti, and Icardi and Osimhen also won the Serie A top scorer: Is this coach enough to wake up David, Vlahovic and Oponda?

"Spaletti's style of play is open and beneficial to forwards. Icardi averaged close to one goal per game when he was at Inter Milan, and Osimhen did the same. Sabatini always allows 5-6 players to enter the penalty area and has precise passing lines. David will resume the scoring rhythm when he was at Lille. And Vlahovic will explode."

Vlahovic's contract is expiring: what will you do with him?

"Let him play every time. What is important for Juventus now is the game and qualification for the Champions League next season, not the future. And Vlahovic can provide great help until the end."

How do you imagine Yildiz's role in Spalletti's tactics?

"I imagine he will be unstoppable. He is a fantastic talent, young, but already decisive at the highest level. Yildiz can become the role Kvarac Helia played when Spalletti won the Serie A title with Naples. It is not so much similar characteristics, but similar influence on the team and the game."

In addition to Yildiz, who are the most "Spaletti-like" players in Juventus?

"Spaletti is the sublimation of 'beauty' and 'volume of play': all players will benefit from it. I believe that Kupmenas will rejuvenate under Sabatini. If I have to be picky, maybe Juventus needs more options in the midfield. But...".

If a very wealthy club hired you tomorrow, which Juventus player would you ask your president to "go crazy" for?

"Of course it is Yildiz, but I realize that this is not an original choice: the Turk is priceless. I also have a soft spot for Conceicao: tactics are important, but when I watch the game, I will be shocked by the Portuguese player's changes of direction and one-on-one."

Tudor was fired after eight games without a win, three consecutive defeats and four games without a goal. What was his main fault?

"Tudor conveyed the sense of belonging, Juventus' genes and character. I don't think he did anything wrong, but the team didn't take off. The plane stayed on the runway, this kind of thing happens from time to time."

Will the club ask Spalletti to re-evaluate Tudor's little-used summer signings?

"I'll tell you an anecdote from Spalletti's time at Roma. One day he came to my office and said to me: 'Walter, did you know we had a champion player?' I asked: 'Sabatini, who is it?' He was referring to Emerson Palmieri, who was on loan from Palermo and almost a non-staffer. Spalletti made him take off, and then Emerson played in the Italian national team and won everything with Chelsea." .
