Bavaria-born German Winter Olympic champion mountaineer Laura Dalmair died in an accident while climbing a mountaineering in Pakistan a few days ago at the age of 31. Bayern officially issued a commemoration:

At the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, Dalmayer won two gold medals in the women's Sprint and Pursuit, and won the bronze medal in the individual competition, becoming the first female athlete in history to win the short distance and chase championships at the same Winter Olympics.

She also won 5 gold and 1 silver in the 2017 World Championships, and ranked first in the world in the same year. In May 2019, the 25-year-old announced her retirement due to "losing her competitive enthusiasm" and ended her career.

After that, she transformed into a mountaineering guide and rescue team member. After successfully reaching the peak of Dakawaguchita Peak, at an altitude of 6,287 meters on July 8, 2025, she was hit by rockfall at Laila Peak in the Karakoram Mountains of Pakistan at noon on July 28.

Due to the bad weather, the helicopter arrived a day later and surveyed confirmed that she was "at least seriously injured and showed no signs of life." On July 30, her management team announced that she had died. Because the risk is too high, the body will not be taken back - respect her wish to "sleep in the mountains if she dies."
